Woman, two sons sentenced to 14-year jail for acid attack
An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday sentenced a woman and her two sons to 14 years in jail in a case involving an acid attack on a young girl.
The judge also slapped a fine of Rs1 million on the accused Azra and her two sons, Jibran, aka Sunny, and Farhan. In case of non-payment of fine the accused will have to serve another six-month jail term.
Liaquat Gabol, the counsel for the petitioner, successfully established his case, arguing that the accused had thrown acid on Chanda 22, who suffered burns to her face and other body parts on August 13, 2019. The case was registered at Surjani police station against the accused on the complaint of Shamshad Masih, the father-in-law of the victim.
Earlier this year, a 55-year-old woman named Tanveer Bano lost her life and her daughter, Rabia Shahid, sustained burn injuries in the gruesome acid attack that happened inside their home in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block 5. Police had registered a case against Bano's ex-husband and two un identified men on the complaint of her daughter.
