Pakistan, Russia to enhance cooperation in maritime security

Both countries have reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation in maritime security and naval technology

Pakistan and Russia reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation in maritime security and naval technology, according to Radio Pakistan.

The understanding was formalised during a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday between Colonel General Alexander V Fomin, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, and Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan.

The discussions focused on professional matters of mutual interest, the regional maritime security situation, and bilateral naval cooperation.

The two officials explored various aspects of collaboration, including bilateral training, visits of naval warships, and joint naval exercises between the two countries' naval forces.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed that Pakistan values its relationship with the Russian Federation and is committed to fostering a long-term, multifaceted partnership.

In response, the Russian deputy defense minister acknowledged the Pakistan Navy's continuous efforts and strong commitment to ensuring maritime security in the region.
