Students in Karachi have unveiled a unique drug packaging solution that changes colour before expiration, Express News reported on Wednesday.

This innovation was showcased by over 200 students from various universities under the auspices of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Karachi, aiming to address health issues through environmental sustainability and technological advancement.

The students impressed everyone with their distinctive medication packaging and a robotic medicine reminder. A special ceremony was held at the University of Karachi, organised by the Pharmacy Science Club, to recognise the contributions of the healthcare sector.

The event featured various sessions highlighting modern research, pharmacy practice awareness, medication safety, and improved patient care, along with training on new pharmacy techniques and their applications.

To commemorate World Pharmacists Day, the Faculty of Pharmacy held discussions and scientific competitions, sponsored by Dr Sana Sarfraz. The aim of the event was to pay tribute to pharmacists' services in public health and to raise awareness about the pharmacy profession among students.

Participants expressed their thoughts on reducing health issues and showcased their creativity in packaging design through the Pharma Canvas initiative. The innovative packaging will allow the identification of medications that are nearing expiration by changing colour.

Poster competitions were also held, and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Dr Haris Shoaib, encouraged students to impact future health outcomes in the field.

Ibrahim Maroofi, head of the Pharmacy Science Club, stated that the club has been organising various sessions and competitions for the past ten years, providing students with valuable learning opportunities. "On this day, we remember the international level healthcare services," he added.

Mahim Zaidi, Corporate Affairs representative of the club, noted that over 500 students enrolled in the exhibition, with more than 200 participating in various competitions, showcasing their creativity from different universities in Karachi. Winning students were awarded prizes and shields.

Guest speakers and a distinguished panel of judges provided valuable insights and feedback to participants. The seminars received support from brands such as Bayer, Platinum Partner, Medisure, and others, emphasising a shared commitment to promoting pharmacy education.
