Lucas Bravo voices frustration over ‘Emily in Paris’ role, questions return for season 5

Lucas Bravo questions returning for ‘Emily in Paris’ season 5, citing frustration with Gabriel’s character arc.

Lucas Bravo, known for his role as chef Gabriel in Netflix’s ‘Emily in Paris,’ has expressed doubts about continuing with the series for its fifth season, citing creative differences over his character’s direction. In an interview with IndieWire, Bravo stated, “I love the show and the people in it,” but admitted feeling “frustrated with the direction my character is taking.” Bravo, who initially found the role resonated with his personality, now feels disconnected from Gabriel, describing him as “slowly turned into guacamole” due to limited character growth.

Bravo emphasized his concerns with the portrayal of Gabriel, who he feels has strayed from the “fun, cheeky, playful” persona of season one, turning into a “melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost” character. The actor revealed that he has tried to bring “nuances” to Gabriel but has limited creative control, explaining, “We don’t have much liberty on set. We cannot change a word or an emotion.” Bravo’s contract concludes with season four, and he’s now weighing his options, hoping for Gabriel to return to his original lighthearted charm. “I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his…alive self,” he said.

IndieWire reports Bravo’s dissatisfaction mirrors broader critiques of the show’s narrative direction, which Bravo described as resistant to change due to its initial popularity. He pointed to recurring “souffles” in the storyline, such as abrupt plot shifts. While Bravo remains appreciative of the breakout role, he admitted, “I’m not going to lie, I’ve been frustrated with the direction by character is taking.”
