ATC grants bail to van 'escapees'

ISLAMABAD:

An ATC on Tuesday accepted the bail application of 86 accused, who tried to escape from the police van last week, and ordered their release.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra heard the post-arrest bail applications of the accused, including two PTI members of the K-P Assembly, 34 police personnel and 42 rescue personnel.

Advocates Ansar Kayani, Murtaza Turi and Mirza Asim Baig appeared on behalf of the accused. The court granted bail to the accused and ordered their release. On Monday, the accused were presented in the ATC for remand.

However, Judge Sipra denied the police request for 30-day remand, sending them to Adiala Jail on judicial remand instead.
