Liam Payne's first posthumous single, 'Do No Wrong,' to be released two weeks after his death
Liam Payne’s first posthumous single, Do No Wrong, is set for release on Friday, two weeks after the former One Direction star’s tragic death in Argentina. The 31-year-old singer fell from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, with preliminary toxicology reports suggesting cocaine exposure, according to Argentinian officials. Payne, who had openly discussed his past struggles with addiction, was identified by his father, Geoff Payne, who traveled to Argentina last week and will return his son's body to the UK once authorities release it.
The single, a collaboration with US artist Sam Pounds, includes three versions: a live mix, an a cappella, and a standard track, all featuring Payne’s vocals. Pounds shared his hopes for the track on social media, writing that he wished it would “eclipse the negative echoes” surrounding Payne's passing and bring solace to his family. "I pray that this song will be a blessing to Ruth, Bear, and the entire family," Pounds posted on Instagram, referring to Payne’s mother and son. Pounds also expressed gratitude for their shared time in the studio, saying, “I can’t believe you are gone.”
The artwork for Do No Wrong, released by Pounds, depicts a winged angel rising toward a broken heart in black and white, symbolizing both loss and remembrance. Payne’s last single, Teardrops, debuted in March, with fans eagerly anticipating a forthcoming second album. Reports suggested that Payne had recently parted ways with his record label due to declining sales, although he had continued working on projects, including mentoring on the Netflix show Building The Band, now believed to be on hold.
Do No Wrong is anticipated as both a tribute to Payne’s legacy and a gesture of comfort to his family and fans.
