Army dominates in National Taekwondo

PAF, HEC, Wapda athletes also shine on third day

Army athletes performed superbly by capturing numerous top positions in both male and female categories on the third day of the 17th Korean Ambassador Taekwondo Championship 2024 here in Islamabad on Monday.

Supported by Combaxx, the tournament saw athletes from Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Higher Education Commission (HEC), WAPDA and other regional teams also earning significant success.

The Army team emerged as the leading force, showcasing remarkable talent and athleticism as Pakistan's finest taekwondo fighters competed for national glory.

In the Senior Male Kyorugi competition for males in the under 54kg category, Abu Bakar of Army clinched the first place followed by Shahzaib of PAF while M. Zahid Ali of WAPDA finished third. Tazeel Hasnat of HEC ended up in fourth position.

In the under 58kg category for males, Haroon Khan (Army) secured a gold medal while M. Tayyab (HEC) bagged a silver and Nisar Ahmed (PAF) and Abuzar (Punjab) bagged bronzed medals.

In the under 63kg contests, Noman Khan (Army) won a gold, Fareed Ahmed (PAF) earned a silver with Shameer (HEC) and Hussain Anjum (WAPDA) finishing in third and fourth position with bronze medals respectively.

In the males under 68kg category, M. Arbaz Khan (Army) emerged victorious with a gold medal, Sarmad Munir (Punjab) clinched a silver while Abdul Rafay (HEC) and Shahzad (PAF) earned bronze medals.

In the under74 kg category, Zubair (PAF) claimed the top spot with a gold medal, Jabran (Railway) took a silver with Zeeshan (WAPDA) and Mehmood (Army) finishing third and fourth.

The Senior Female Kyorugi competition also saw strong performances.

In the female under 62kg category, Zoya Sabir (Army) took home a gold, with Bibi Fazila (HEC) securing a silver and Sania (Gilgit-Baltistan) and Sidra (WAPDA) taking bronze respectively.

In the female under 67kg competitions, Sarah Rahman (Army) won a gold medal while Maliha (HEC) bagged a silver with Uroosa (Gilgit-Baltistan) and Minahil (WAPDA) earning bronze medals each.
