A mural honoring the late rapper King Von, aka Dayvon Daquan Bennett, in his Chicago neighborhood was recently defaced with red graffiti following the arrest of his associate, rapper Lil Durk.
Lil Durk, aka Durk Devontay Banks, was taken into custody in connection with a 2022 Los Angeles shooting involving Quando Rondo, a rapper linked to Von’s death in Atlanta in 2020. Durk faces a "murder-for-hire" charge in what is believed to be a revenge attempt on Rondo, though Rondo was unharmed in the LA incident; however, his cousin lost his life.

King Von's mural, located on King Drive at Parkway Gardens, was painted in 2021 by Chicago urban planner and artist Chris Devins and commissioned by Mural Movement CEO Delilah Martinez. It depicts Von sitting in a chair with his signature "O Block" chain. The mural was placed on the Parkway Supermarket wall, a site Von frequented as a child.
The mural initially sparked controversy within the neighborhood. While some residents viewed it as a tribute to Von, others argued it promoted gang culture. Following its completion, Chicago police requested its removal. However, the decision was put to a community vote, and residents ultimately chose to keep it as a lasting homage to the 26-year-old rapper.
