John Stamos is heading back into the Marvel universe, but not everyone is cheering. The Full House actor, who previously voiced Tony Stark in Spidey and His Amazing Friends, will now voice Iron Man’s father, Howard Stark, in Disney Jr.’s upcoming animated series Iron Man and His Awesome Friends. The preschool-targeted show drops August 11, but its first trailer has already sparked an online stir.

Meant for young audiences, the show follows Tony Stark, Riri Williams (Ironheart), and Amadeus Cho (Iron Hulk) as child prodigies in high-tech Iron Suits saving their city. While the tone is light and colourful, the fandom is divided. Some longtime Marvel fans are calling it an unnecessary “baby-fication” of the franchise. “Howard Stark helping kids defeat Ultron in candy stores is wild,” one post read.

The trailer shows bright visuals, talking robot sidekicks, and a very sanitized Marvel world, one where villains like Ultron and Swarm are goofier than threatening. Stamos joins a star-studded voice cast, including Tony Hale as Ultron, Vanessa Bayer, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Jackée Harry. Despite the A-list talent, critics argue Marvel may be diluting its brand in a push for preschool appeal.

Stamos’ return as a Stark sparked brief fan excitement, but it faded quickly under accusations that Marvel is cashing in on nostalgia and big names while sidelining storytelling. Online chatter has also focused on the show’s title, which many feel sounds like a parody. “What even is Iron Man and His Awesome Friends supposed to be?” one fan wrote.

Still, the series is set for a major rollout across Disney Jr., Disney Channel, and Disney+. Whether Marvel’s preschool gamble pays off is yet to be seen.
