Farhan Akhtar announces 'Mirzapur: The Film'
Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has officially announced the much-anticipated Mirzapur: The Film, promising fans an intense cinematic experience.
The announcement was made via social media, featuring fan-favourite characters from the hit series, including Kaleen Bhaiyya, Guddu Bhaiyya, and Munna Bhaiyya.
In a teaser video shared online, Farhan Akhtar highlighted that the film would differ from the series by having a theatrical release instead of an OTT premiere.
The teaser hints at a more intense narrative, with the return of Divyendu Sharma's character, Munna Tripathi, who was killed at the end of the second season.
“Ab bhaukaal bhi bada hoga, aur parda bhi. #MirzapurTheFilm, coming soon,” Farhan Akhtar wrote in the post, generating excitement among fans.
The film will feature an ensemble cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, and Abhishek Banerjee, reprising their roles from the series. According to the creators, Mirzapur: The Film is scripted by Puneet Krishna, who also developed the series.
Scheduled for a theatrical release in 2026, the film will later be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video following an exclusive eight-week run in cinemas.
Mirzapur originally premiered on Amazon Prime in November 2018 and has since gained a substantial following for its portrayal of crime and power dynamics in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, India.
The series concluded its third season in July 2024, leaving fans eager for more content.
