Man arrested for sexual assault on cousin's wife

Police have arrested a man for sexually assaulting his cousin's wife and injuring her and her two children in Orangi Town. One of the children later died during treatment.

According to police, the accused, identified as Sameer, tried to sexually assault the woman named Rimsha Shahrukh and injured her with a razor blade when she resisted his illicit advances. Sameer also allegedly injured Rimsha's two children, 10-year-old Subhan and three-year-old Aliza, by hitting them with an iron rod.

The accused fled the scene after the assault, while the injured woman and her children were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Subhan succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police registered the case against Sameer on the complaint of the injured woman's husband, Shahrukh, and launched a manhunt for the accused.

On the night between Saturday and Sunday, police managed to arrest the suspect. According to Arshad Ali, SHO of Orangi Town police station, the accused is a cousin of the victim's husband and is also a drug addict. Sameer, who had a liking for the injured woman, and tried to sexually assault her, but when she put up resistance he injured with a blade. The accused also injured the victim's children in an attempt to prevent them from identifying him.

Sameer has a criminal record as he was previously jailed in various cases of robbery, drug sale and illegal weapons possession, registered at Khawaja Ajmer Nagri and Ferozabad police stations.

The SHO said that Sameer has confessed to his latest crime during interrogation, and also gave away the murder weapon, the iron rod, to police.
