Promoting Pakistan's scenic splendour

Artist draws deep inspiration from country's northern regions

Renowned artist Muhammad Arif Khan

ABBOTTABAD:

Renowned artist Muhammad Arif Khan's remarkable career spans both national and international exhibitions, where his diverse artistic skills shine across landscapes, still life, and calligraphy.

Khan draws deep inspiration from Pakistan's northern regions, with his landscape paintings capturing the breathtaking beauty of these areas. His still-life compositions feature local fruits, vegetables, and traditional utensils, offering a rich glimpse into Pakistani culture. His Islamic calligraphy, rooted in Pakistan's artistic heritage, reflects his spiritual connections and love for his country's traditions.

Khan's unique artistic technique blends impressionism, naturalism, and spiritualism. His use of texture, light, and colour has made his style instantly recognisable. His work promotes tourism in Pakistan by showcasing its stunning landscapes, such as Hazara, Swat, Kalam, and Kaghan, inviting viewers to explore the nation's unspoiled beauty.

With exhibitions held at the National Art Gallery of Pakistan, Hunerkada Art Gallery, and beyond, Khan remains a prominent figure in Pakistan's art scene. His works not only elevate Pakistan's cultural heritage but also serve as an ambassador for its scenic treasures globally.

"For me, art is a spiritual transcendence, a journey to understand my inner self and the world around me," Khan said. Through his artwork, he invites viewers on that journey, fostering introspection and self-discovery. Despite his contributions, Khan has faced challenges in securing governmental support.

Since 2020, he has submitted numerous proposals to the provincial culture and tourism authorities, seeking assistance for national and international exhibitions and a monthly artist stipend. Unfortunately, none of his requests have been met.

Khan has also been advocating for the publication of his book, Journey Through an Artist's Eyes, which explores Pakistan's culture, environment, and tourism potential. He hopes that the relevant departments will support its publication to further promote the country's hidden gems to international audiences.

By blending traditional and contemporary techniques, Muhammad Arif Khan's work continues to be a vivid representation of Pakistan's splendour, instilling pride and fascination in all who view his masterpieces.
