Timothée Chalamet surprises fans by crashing look-alike contest at Washington Square Park

Timothée Chalamet stuns fans by appearing at a NYC look-alike contest amid chaos and crowds of doppelgängers.

Timothée Chalamet made a surprise appearance at a look-alike contest in Washington Square Park on Sunday, leaving fans thrilled and onlookers shocked.

Organized by fans, the unofficial contest attracted a sizable crowd by 1 p.m., with the winner set to receive a $50 cash prize. Chalamet’s look-alikes, inspired by his iconic roles, roamed the park, with costumes ranging from Willy Wonka’s purple cape to a Bob Dylan look. The gathering quickly drew a crowd of curious spectators, prompting New York City police to intervene and manage the group, with officers instructing attendees to disperse due to a lack of a formal permit. At least one individual was detained and issued a summons, according to police reports.

Despite the commotion, Chalamet’s sudden arrival captivated the crowd, as he greeted fans and posed alongside one of his potential doubles. “Once the dust settled, the contest’s organizer appeared to crown the winner adorned in the purple Wonka cape,” NBC New York reported.

Initially, some treated the event with skepticism, but The Gothamist later confirmed the event’s authenticity. One of the organizers explained they “didn’t want to ‘ruin the illusion’ of the event” by providing too much information.

Chalamet, known for his roles in Dune and Call Me by Your Name, has been in the spotlight recently as the star and producer of the biopic Marty Supreme, centered on table tennis legend Marty Reisman, co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow and rapper Tyler, the Creator. His appearance at the look-alike contest comes amid growing anticipation for his portrayal in Wonka, solidifying his place as a fan favorite.
