Leonardo DiCaprio endorses Kamala Harris, criticizes Trump

Leonardo DiCaprio endorses Kamala Harris, criticizes climate policies, calls for “bold steps forward” for the planet.

Leonardo DiCaprio has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for president, citing her environmental policies and criticizing former President Donald Trump’s stance on climate change.

In a video posted to his Instagram, the Oscar-winning actor referenced the recent hurricanes Helene and Milton as evidence of worsening “unnatural disasters caused by climate change.” He argued that Trump has dismissed environmental science, stating, “Donald Trump continues to deny the facts. He continues to deny the science,” and pointed to Trump’s actions, including the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords and a promise to the oil and gas industry to remove regulations “in exchange for a billion-dollar donation.”

As an environmental advocate, DiCaprio highlighted Harris’s support for impactful legislation, noting, “She helped lead the most significant climate action in U.S. history, including passing the Inflation Reduction Act.” DiCaprio endorsed her goals to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and transition to a green economy, which he said would “not only create jobs but also help save our planet.” DiCaprio concluded by urging viewers to vote on November 5, warning, “We cannot afford to go backwards.”

DiCaprio’s environmental advocacy extends back to previous elections; while he did not formally endorse Joe Biden in 2020, he attended a fundraising event for the president. Ahead of the 2016 election, DiCaprio urged support for candidates prioritizing climate science at the Hollywood Film Awards. Known for his work on environmental issues, DiCaprio’s endorsement signals his continued call for climate action as a central issue.
