Cooper Koch hopes for Menendez brothers’ release after DA recommends parole eligibility
With Los Angeles County DA George Gascón recommending the Menéndez brothers be resentenced, Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menéndez Story actor Cooper Koch has voiced support for their potential release.
Gascón’s decision, which reclassifies their charges from murder to manslaughter, could make Erik and Lyle Menéndez immediately eligible for parole after serving decades in prison for the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise "Kitty" Menéndez. Koch expressed "gratitude and hope" for the progress, acknowledging upcoming steps, including court approval and the parole board’s assessment of their time served.
Koch, who portrayed Erik Menéndez, joined Kim Kardashian in a visit to the brothers and 40 inmates at San Diego County’s Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility to discuss prison reform.
Kardashian later advocated for their release in an essay, supporting Gascón's motion to have the brothers' sentence reduced to 50 years to life, with parole eligibility granted due to their ages at the time of the crime.
