Stevie Nicks recalls her firm response to Katy Perry’s question about 'rivals'

Stevie Nicks, the legendary Fleetwood Mac singer, recently recalled a conversation with Katy Perry, where the two discussed rivalry among female artists. 

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Nicks shared that Perry had asked her about her 'rivals' during a conversation about internet culture and the competitive nature among female singers. Nicks responded with a steely look and said, "Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet, and you won’t have rivals either."

Nicks, 76, who has sold over 120 million records worldwide as part of Fleetwood Mac, offered this perspective to Perry, 39, during a conversation a decade ago. At the time, Perry was dealing with public feuds, notably her long-standing conflict with Taylor Swift. Perry and Swift’s feud reportedly began over backup dancers leaving Swift’s tour for Perry’s Prismatic World Tour. Swift later released the diss track Bad Blood, which many believed was directed at Perry.

Nicks’ comments come as a reminder of her view on collaboration rather than competition in the music industry. Nicks has maintained a strong friendship with Swift, with whom she performed at the 52nd Grammy Awards in 2010. Swift recently acknowledged Nicks as a mentor, calling her a "hero" and someone she can "tell any secret."
