SlimeLife Shawty became a major topic of conversation in the hip hop community after taking the stand in the ongoing Young Thug trial.

On Wednesday, the rapper admitted that he treated YSL Records like a gang when he first joined. He also read a redacted social media message in court, causing confusion for the defense. As a result, Young Thug's legal team requested a mistrial due to Shawty’s testimony.

Following his court appearance, SlimeLife Shawty responded to the ridicule and mockery he faced online. He took to his Instagram Stories, posting, "Y'all so dumb," before defending himself. “I didn’t snitch on Young Thug,” he wrote, adding, "Ain’t have to tell on nobody.” Shawty also directed threats towards two individuals, hinting that he could publicly call them out. Despite the aggression, he later softened his tone, ending with, "I'm chillin tho I luv you all."

Shawty has been involved in the YSL Records racketeering trial from the beginning, having been arrested alongside Young Thug and other YSL members in 2022. He took a plea deal, which, like Lil Duke, resulted in reduced sentencing. Although some of his followers supported him, others claimed his career was finished.

New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli noted that before the RICO charges, Shawty was one of YSL Records’ most promising artists, second only to Gunna, who has managed to maintain a successful career post-indictment.
