Liam Neeson recently opened up about the support he received from his family after the heartbreaking death of his wife, Natasha Richardson, in 2009. The Parent Trap actress passed away at the age of 45 after suffering a brain hemorrhage due to a skiing accident.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Neeson, now 72, reflected on how his family, including his sons Micheál and Daniel, as well as Richardson's mother, Vanessa Redgrave, and sister Joely Richardson, “pulled together” during the tragedy.

Neeson, who was suddenly left as a single father, shifted his focus to ensuring his sons were cared for while continuing to work. Fifteen years later, he remains close to his sons, who now live nearby in New York.

In addition to reflecting on his family, Neeson spoke about his late wife’s pride in their son Micheál’s acting career. The father and son starred together in the 2020 film Made in Italy, which Neeson believes would have made Richardson proud.

He also discussed his current career, including his upcoming film Absolution, where he plays a Boston criminal struggling with CTE.
