Actor Nico Tortorella has updated his pronouns to he/him, as revealed during the first episode of his podcast Full of Shift, co-hosted with his wife Bethany Meyers.
Tortorella, who previously used they/them pronouns, explained the shift, stating, "I feel like a man more than I ever have in my entire life right now. That’s not to say that I won’t feel more fluid in the future." Meyers, who had also used they/them pronouns, has similarly reverted to she/her.
Tortorella attributed part of this change to his and Meyers' experiences with infertility and the birth of their first child, Kilmer Dove. He shared that the ongoing pronoun conversation had become an “unnecessary roadblock,” influencing his evolving perspective.
Responding to backlash about the pronoun change on Instagram, Tortorella addressed criticism from some commenters who accused him of “queer baiting,” calling out gatekeeping within the LGBTQ+ community. "This is what is wrong with this community. The gatekeeping. The cattiness. The ignorance,” he stated. Despite this, Tortorella expressed contentment, adding, “I’ve never been happier and y’all are still mad.”
Tortorella has been open about his identity, previously coming out as genderfluid in 2018 and discussing his sexual fluidity at a 2016 event hosted by American Express.
