Michael Kelcourse from ‘Southern Charm’ dies at 71
Michael Kelcourse, best known as Patricia Altschul's loyal butler on 'Southern Charm', has passed away at the age of 71.
The news was confirmed by his friend Luzanne Ott on CaringBridge, revealing that Kelcourse died on October 22, 2024, due to complications related to a spinal cord injury and stroke.
Kelcourse initially suffered a spinal cord stroke in February 2021, which left him paralyzed from the chest down and unable to continue his duties for Altschul, including making his signature martinis. He relocated to an assisted living facility in Florida but remained optimistic despite his condition. "Michael remained extraordinarily good-natured about the cruel twist of fate," Ott shared.
In June 2024, Kelcourse was placed in hospice care, and his spirits began to wane. Earlier this month, he suffered another stroke that further paralyzed him and left him unable to speak. Altschul had encouraged fans to send birthday cards, which brought comfort to Kelcourse in his final days.
Despite his declining health, Kelcourse's sense of humor remained intact. Ott recalled how he insisted on receiving caviar, a request that brought joy and fond memories to his loved ones, including Altschul. Kelcourse's presence on 'Southern Charm' lasted until its eighth season, and his impact on those around him remains profound.
