PTI intra-party elections case: ECP orders submission of petition copies
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has instructed petitioners in the PTI intra-party elections case to provide copies of their petitions to the party, in a hearing held on Tuesday.
The case was heard by a four-member panel led by ECP member Nisar Durrani, with PTI representatives, including Chairman Barrister Gohar, Akbar S. Babar, and Naveed Anjum, in attendance.
During the hearing, a Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa member of the commission questioned Akbar S. Babar about whether his group had held an intra-party election, to which Babar replied in the negative.
Barrister Gohar argued that the high court had barred the ECP from issuing a final order on the matter.
The commission clarified that it lacked the authority to demand a fresh intra-party election, but ordered the petitioners to provide PTI with copies of their applications.
Babar noted that the commission could no longer mandate an intra-party election for the next five years.
The hearing concluded with the commission asking PTI to submit a response to the petitions, and the next hearing was scheduled for November 14.
