Vawda urges PTI for internal purge

Calls on PTI lawyers to clear out rotten apples in party ranks

Senator Faisal Vawda on Monday called on PTI lawyers, who are raising the banner against constitutional amendments and alleged coercion to back them, to first put their own house in order.

Speaking on Express News' programme Kal Tak, Vawda urged the PTI's legal eagles to weed out the 'rotten apples' within PTI's ranks, referring to those who have jumped ship multiple times and are now betraying the party while still holding seats in the Senate and National Assembly.

He said it beggared belief that despite the alleged torture claims, these individuals were still not coerced to vote against PTI's interests during the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment on Sunday. Vawda stressed that PTI needs to clean its own backyard before taking on external battles.

"There are those who have betrayed the party, defectors and sellouts, not just those named by the party, but others who have switched parties four times and are now delivering speeches," he said.

Referring to former PTI leaders, Vawda mentioned that several members had gone into hiding and were now acting like victims, while still occupying seats in the Senate and National Assembly. He further criticised their press conferences and claimed they had betrayed PTI and Imran Khan, providing legitimacy to the current government they once opposed.

Vawda also predicted that PTI would not secure the reserved seats in the future, stressing that the internal betrayals had weakened the party. He said that Pakistan has been in crisis for the past 75 years, and these crises will continue to come and go. Such challenges were neither new nor insurmountable, and they will be resolved, he added.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Walid Iqbal, also speaking on the show, questioned whether Vawda was part of the crisis or working to resolve it. He criticised the recent constitutional amendments, calling them personality-driven and entirely opposed by PTI.
