Police dept audits open court complaints for transparency

In an effort to enhance transparency and accountability within the police force, Lahore Police have initiated an audit of the actions taken in response to complaints received during open court sessions, known as Khuli Kachehris.

The move is aimed at improving public trust in the department by ensuring that complaints are properly addressed and that police misconduct is promptly dealt with.

According to DIG Operations Lahore, Muhammad Faisal Kamran, 18 open courts were held at the DIG Operations office this month, during which a total of 278 complaints of various nature were lodged. After reviewing the complaints and following legal procedures, 28 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered.

Moreover, 101 cases involving financial disputes, domestic conflicts, and other grievances were successfully resolved through mediation and negotiation.

The audit also highlighted that 47 complaints were filed against police personnel.

Investigations revealed misconduct in five cases, prompting disciplinary action against the officers involved.

The findings reaffirmed the department's commitment to maintaining accountability within its ranks. Additionally, 97 complaints are still under process and are being closely monitored.

DIG Kamran emphasised that this audit demonstrates the police department's strong resolve toward ensuring transparency.

He stressed that officers responsible for handling public grievances are being given specific time frames to resolve issues. Any officer failing to meet the deadlines faces strict legal action.

"The goal of these open courts is to rebuild and strengthen public trust in the police institution.

Field officers must develop a habit of resolving citizens' problems in a timely manner.

Officers who fail to address recurring issues in their areas will not be tolerated," said DIG Kamran.
