Karachi braces for five more days of intense heat

PMD notifies thunderstorms with rain are expected today and tomorrow in Umerkot and Tharparkar.

The recent heatwave in Karachi is expected to persist for another 4 to 5 days.

According to the Early Warning Center of the Meteorological Department, daytime temperatures may rise by 3 to 4 degrees above average, potentially reaching 38 degrees Celsius.

Sea breezes are inactive, with winds primarily expected from the northeast and northwest.

For the next few days, Karachi and several districts in rural Sindh are likely to experience extreme heat.

Sajawal, Thatta, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, and Tharparkar will also be in the grip of heat.

The Meteorological Department stated that thunderstorms with rain are expected today and tomorrow in Umerkot and Tharparkar.

Earlier, as Karachi experiences changing weather patterns, health officials are reporting a rise in pneumonia cases among children.

Hospitals, including the Children’s Hospital and Civil Hospital, are seeing daily admissions increase, with the former treating about 30 cases and the latter 10 to 15.

Dr. Khalid Shafi, Secretary General of the Pakistan Paediatrics Association, explains that pneumonia cases often spike during October to December due to cooler temperatures.

With over 70,000 annual deaths from pneumonia in Pakistan, vulnerable populations—especially children under two and adults over 65—are at the highest risk.

Symptoms include a persistent cough, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.

This increase in cases highlights the importance of public awareness and timely healthcare interventions as the weather continues to fluctuate.
