South African pacer Kagiso Rabada made history on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. Kagiso Rabada became the first player in world cricket to take 300 Test wickets in under 12,000 balls.

He reached the milestone by dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim in the first session, putting Bangladesh in deep trouble at 60-6.

Kagiso Rabada achieved the feat in his 65th match and is now the fastest to 300 Test wickets by deliveries, reaching the landmark in 11,817 balls. He surpassed Pakistan’s Waqar Younis, who took 12,602 deliveries to reach the same milestone.

In terms of matches, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record, reaching 300 wickets in just 54 Tests, while Kagiso Rabada’s strike rate of 39.3 is the highest among all bowlers with 300 or more Test wickets.

The 29-year-old is the sixth South African to join the elite club of bowlers with 300 or more Test wickets, following Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Allan Donald, and Morne Morkel.

Kagiso Rabada’s remarkable achievement came as he and fellow pacer Wiaan Mulder tore through Bangladesh’s top order. South Africa are eyeing vital points in the World Test Championship (WTC) as they aim for a place in the final.

Bangladesh’s decision to bat first backfired as South Africa’s bowlers dominated the opening session. Kagiso Rabada’s twin strikes, including the dismissal of senior batter Litton Das, put Bangladesh on the back foot, with the hosts struggling to recover.
