Following the tragic death of former One Direction star Liam Payne, prominent figures in the UK music industry, including renowned songwriter Guy Chambers, are advocating for new rules to prevent under-18s from joining pop bands.

Chambers, known for his work with Robbie Williams, expressed concern about the damaging effects of early fame, especially for teenage stars.

He suggested that 16-year-olds entering the adult world of entertainment could face significant mental health challenges, as Payne did.

Payne's death, caused by a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, has sparked criticism of the industry's treatment of young stars.

Music industry leaders, such as former Warner/Chappell boss Mike Smith, echoed the sentiment, noting that artists need more protection and mental health resources.

Smith pointed out that some major music companies have begun setting up funds for mental health care, but more needs to be done.

Chambers, Payne's family, and fellow musicians, including Cheryl Tweedy, Payne’s former partner, are calling for reforms to safeguard young performers.
