Five arrested in Tarbela Power House theft case

Police recover most of Rs600 million worth of stolen valuable materials

Major breakthrough in the Tarbela Power House theft case led to five accused being arrested by the police. Most of the goods and money have also been recovered and further investigation is underway.

According to police sources, three local facilitators were sent to jail, while three accused will be produced in a local court today for further questioning.

The SIT, headed by DSP Hayat Khan and under the supervision of Circle Ghazi SDPO Raja Bashir Ahmed and comprising seven members from Peshal Branch police station and other agencies, is currently investigating the case.

Valuable materials and wires worth Rs600 million were stolen from the most sensitive and securitised area of Tarbela Power House. So far, five have been arrested of the eight accused while three are on the run.

The accused, some of whom were expert swimmers, namely Atifur Rehman, Ahmed Nawaz and Shakar Alam, have been sent to jail on judicial remand. According to sources, these three facilitators had floated the precious copper and other materials to the other side of the river on vehicle tires.

According to the local police, the other three accused, security inspector Nasrullah Khan, driver Sabz Ali and a private firm employee, Usmanzada, will be produced in court today. Aside from them, 15 main suspects including Waqar Ali, son of Abdul Rasheed, and telephone operator Shakeelur Rehman are still on the run.
