RAWALPINDI:

A suspect apprehended by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)'s Islamabad Zone attempted to escape custody but was quickly recaptured and taken to the hospital. The individual, identified as Zain, had tried to travel to Canada using a fraudulent visa.

Upon detection by FIA immigration officials, he was offloaded and transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Islamabad.

The suspect attempted to flee through a window under the pretence of needing to use the restroom. He was promptly taken to the hospital for a thorough medical check-up and was discharged two hours later after being declared fully healthy.

An FIA spokesperson stated that a video circulating on social media, which is 10 days old, shows the suspect's escape attempt from FIA custody.

The Islamabad zonal office has recently moved and now has detention facilities ready. The Canadian High Commission confirmed that the suspect had previously applied for a student visa using fake documents four years ago, which was rejected. This time, he acquired a visa through an agent, which was later found to be fraudulent. As a result, he had been suffering from depression.

The FIA spokesperson reiterated that visas for any country are issued by the respective country's embassy, not by agents.
