Corruption: Man arrested, four found guilty for embezzlement

The scheme was delayed on multiple occasions, and despite revising its cost up to Rs10 million

MANSEHRA:

The anti-corruption department on Saturday arrested a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), along with four other officials including a government contractor for allegedly embezzling Rs10 million, official sources told The Express Tribune.

Mansehra Anti-corruption Department Circle Officer Aurangzeb Khan said that a water supply scheme worth Rs2.9 million was approved for Jhokan Village in 1996. The scheme was delayed on multiple occasions, and despite revising its cost up to Rs10 million, PHED officials failed to complete the project and showed on paper that the project had been completed.

Following a probe into the case, the Anti-corruption Department found SDO Asmatullah Gandapur, Executive Engineer Asghar Khan, Superintendents Ziauddin and Iftikhar Khan, and a government contractor Ehsanullah guilty of misappropriation of the funds.
