Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P) senator Faisal Subzwari underscored the urgent need for empowered local governments or the establishment of new provinces during a Senate session focused on proposed constitutional amendments on Sunday.
In his remarks, Subzwari highlighted the inadequate authority currently conferred to local governments, emphasising that the existing legal framework fails to empower these bodies across all provinces.
He expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for its support and noted the law minister’s assurance that a special committee would persist in addressing local authority issues.
Subzwari further disclosed that the topic of empowering local governments would be incorporated into the upcoming 27th constitutional amendment.
He asserted that the MQM-P, alongside other political parties, has actively contributed to the ongoing amendments aimed at reforming the judiciary and the justice system in Pakistan.
He stressed that meaningful benefits to citizens would only arise when courts are able to deliver swift justice, marking this as a critical area for improvement. "By addressing common citizens’ issues, the judiciary can truly bring reforms that positively impact society," he argued.
