Liam Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, paid tribute to his late son at the hotel in Argentina where the former One Direction star tragically died.
Surrounded by mourners, Geoff was seen reading floral tributes and letters left by fans. Payne, 31, reportedly fell from a balcony at the CasaSur Palmero Hotel in Buenos Aires, suffering injuries that were “incompatible with life,” according to local police. Authorities have confirmed that Liam was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his death.
In an official statement to The Associated Press, Argentinian police stated that the singer had "jumped from the balcony of his room," dispelling rumors of foul play. Reports indicate that Liam’s hotel room was found in “complete disarray” with several items broken. Hotel staff had made a desperate call to emergency services just before the incident, requesting "urgent" support due to a man “acting aggressively.”
Geoff and Karen Payne, Liam’s parents, traveled to Argentina after receiving news of their son’s death. In a family statement, they expressed their grief, saying, “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts, and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul. We ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
Liam’s One Direction bandmates, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles, also issued a joint statement, expressing their devastation. “We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam,” the message read. Cheryl Tweedy, Payne’s former partner and the mother of his son Bear, also shared her heartache, expressing concern about the media’s exploitation of Liam’s death.
