KARACHI:

Sea breezes may temporarily become inactive during the weekend, causing severe heat in the city on Saturday according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department's (PMD) Early Warning Centre.

Today, north-western winds from Balochistan are affecting the city, while tomorrow and the day after, winds will shift to a north-eastern direction from Balochistan.

Isolated thunderstorms and rain with lightning are forecasted for Umerkot and Tharparkar on Monday and Tuesday, while the rest of the province is likely to remain hot and dry.

Yesterday, the Met Office forecasted that Karachi is expected to experience hot and humid weather over the next three days. Other districts in the province are expected to witness hot and dry conditions as well.

Moreover, according to today's PMD press release depression over the west-central Arabian Sea has shifted further north-westward in the past 12 hours.

The system is about 1,150 km southwest of Karachi and 830 km southwest of Gwadar. It lies around 130 km southeast of Duqm, Oman, and 190 km south-southwest of Masirah, Oman, with its centre about 490 km northeast of Salalah, Oman. The depression is forecast to continue moving northwest towards the Oman coast and is expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area by the morning of 16 October. No coastal areas of Pakistan are under threat from this system, the Met Office confirmed.
