Weather update: Karachi to hit 40°C this weekend

The Met Office predicts that sea breezes will briefly become inactive during this period.

The weather in Karachi remains persistently hot, with temperatures expected to soar to 40°C on Saturday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department's (PMD) Early Warning Center, sea breezes may temporarily become inactive during this period.

Today, northwestern winds from Balochistan are affecting the city, while tomorrow and the day after, winds will shift to a northeastern direction from Balochistan.

On Monday and Tuesday, isolated thunderstorms and rain with lightning are forecasted for Umerkot and Tharparkar, while the rest of the province is likely to remain hot and dry.

Yesterday, the Met Office forecasted that Karachi is expected to experience hot and humid weather over the next three days.

Other districts in the province are expected to witness hot and dry conditions as well.

Moreover, according to today's PMD press release depression over the west-central Arabian Sea has shifted further northwestward in the past 12 hours.

The system is about 1150 km southwest of Karachi and 830 km southwest of Gwadar. It lies around 130 km southeast of Duqm, Oman, and 190 km south-southwest of Masirah, Oman, with its centre about 490 km northeast of Salalah, Oman.

According to the Met Office, the depression is forecast to continue moving northwest towards the Oman coast and is expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area by the morning of 16 October.

No coastal areas of Pakistan are under threat from this system, the Met Office confirmed.
