Clonazepam and alcohol found in Liam Payne’s hotel room as autopsy reveals 'multiple traumas'

Liam Payne, former One Direction member, tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, after falling from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Local authorities revealed they found Clonazepam, a benzodiazepine used to treat seizures and panic disorders, along with alcohol in the singer’s room. 

According to 'drugs.com', misuse of Clonazepam can slow or stop breathing, especially when combined with alcohol, which can potentially lead to fatal outcomes. 

Police described the scene as chaotic, with several items smashed and medicines scattered across the room. A bottle of whiskey, a lighter, and Payne’s cell phone were also found near his body.

An autopsy conducted on Payne’s body confirmed that he had died from “multiple traumas,” causing internal and external bleeding. Initial reports suggest that Payne fell from a height of around ten meters. 

Authorities also found energy pills, a notebook, and the singer’s passport in the room. 

The toxicology results are still pending to confirm if substances were present in his system.

Argentina's 'La Nacion' reported that burned foil and wax were found in the bathtub of Payne's hotel room. 

His family released a statement following the tragic news: "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."

Payne was in Argentina with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, attending a concert by his former bandmate, Niall Horan. 

Following Payne’s passing, fans and artists flooded the internet with tributes and condolences, mourning the loss of the beloved singer.
