Tennis superstar Serena Williams recovers after surgery to remove cyst from neck
Tennis legend Serena Williams revealed she recently underwent surgery to remove a branchial cyst “the size of a grapefruit” from her neck.
The 23-time grand slam champion said she discovered the lump in May but initially delayed surgery after tests confirmed it was benign. However, doctors later advised the operation due to the cyst’s growth and potential risk of infection.
In a TikTok video, Williams shared that she is “feeling good” after the surgery and even managed to take her daughter, Olympia, on a shopping trip as promised.
“I am feeling so grateful and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy,” she said.
Williams, 43, missed Rafael Nadal’s retirement announcement while in surgery but wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that she is “still recovering, but getting better.”
The tennis star, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the sport’s history, retired from competitive tennis after her farewell at the 2022 US Open.
