Kamala Harris distances herself from Biden, takes aim at Trump in high-stakes Fox News interview

In a bold interview with Fox News, US Vice President Kamala Harris vowed to bring "fresh and new ideas" to her presidency, distancing herself from President Joe Biden’s tenure. 

Aiming to appeal to Republican voters, Harris, 59, faced tough questioning from host Bret Baier on Wednesday, tackling issues like immigration and gender transition surgery. 

Notably, Harris assured that her presidency would not be a continuation of Biden’s, highlighting a "new generation of leadership" following Biden's exit from the race. During the contentious half-hour interview, she repeatedly pushed back against interruptions, emphasising her positions.

Harris also launched a sharp critique of Donald Trump, accusing the former president of undermining the American people by threatening military action against "internal enemies." She referenced Trump's divisive rhetoric about an "enemy within."

Trump’s campaign quickly labelled the interview a "train wreck," with his spokeswoman claiming Harris was "angry and defensive." The interview, Harris’ first with Fox News, was seen as a calculated risk as the race remains tightly contested just weeks before the election. 

Throughout, Harris repeatedly shifted the focus back to Trump, dismissing attacks on the Biden administration’s record on immigration and gender-affirming care, while clarifying her stance on upholding the law.

Harris’s sit-down with Fox comes amid rising political tensions as she aims to break the stalemate in the presidential race with less than three weeks until Election Day.
