Harry Styles' mother, Anne Twist, expressed her sorrow over the sudden death of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, who passed away at 31 on Wednesday.

Anne, 56, posted on Instagram with a broken heart emoji on a black background, captioning it: "Just a boy…" accompanied by another broken heart.

Her 2.5 million followers echoed her sadness, with one commenting, "Tragic and heartbreaking."

Another follower added, "I am in total shock. My condolences to your family and also to his family and friends."

Liam passed away in Buenos Aires after falling from a hotel. Witnesses reported that Payne fell from his room at the Casa Sur Palmero Hotel shortly after 5 p.m. (ART) on Wednesday evening.

The English singer gained fame as part of the boy band One Direction, alongside former bandmates Harry Styles, 30, Niall Horan, 31, Zayn Malik, 31, and Louis Tomlinson, 32.

He had reportedly traveled to Argentina earlier this month to attend Horan's concert.

Local authorities have initiated an investigation into his unexpected death, with tributes pouring in after the tragic event.

A police statement confirmed that officers arrived at the hotel after receiving reports of "an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol."

Officials heard a loud noise in the courtyard and discovered Payne's body just after 5 p.m., according to a report from the BBC.

TMZ reported that Liam had been "acting erratic in the hotel lobby and smashed his laptop" before he "had to be carried back to his room."

Police received an urgent call from a hotel employee asking for assistance with an intoxicated guest, based on audio from the Buenos Aires security ministry.

"When he is conscious, he is destroying the entire room, and we need you to send someone," the employee said.

Alberto Crescenti, the director of emergency medical services, confirmed that Liam sustained "very serious injuries after falling from a third floor into an internal courtyard."

"We verified his identity using the passport he had," Crescenti said.

He added, "Afterwards, we learned he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries from the fall were fatal, and there was no possibility of resuscitation."
