Payne, 31, was staying at the Casa Sur Palermo hotel with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy at the time of his death. The singer had posted updates from his trip on social media just hours before the accident. Payne gained global fame as a member of One Direction, a band formed on The X Factor in 2010, alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan.

Fans and stars from the music industry have expressed their grief following the news. Harry Styles’ mother, Anne Twist, shared a moving tribute on Instagram, writing, "Just a boy…" accompanied by a heartbreak emoji. One Direction fans responded with messages of support, with one fan writing, "He had a huge heart. What a loss for those who knew and loved him."

Music industry colleagues also paid tribute. Former X Factor host Dermot O’Leary remembered Payne as “always polite, grateful, and humble.” Olly Murs, another X Factor star, expressed his shock on Instagram, saying, “I’m truly gutted and devastated for his family and of course his son Bear losing a dad.”

Liam Payne leaves behind his seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he welcomed with singer Cheryl Cole in 2017. His sudden death has left both fans and fellow celebrities heartbroken.
