Billions of rupees go unaccounted for at P&D dept

PAC seeks record by next week

KARACHI:

The Sindh Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in its recent meeting expressed displeasure and frustration over the incomplete records provided by the Planning and Development (P&D) Department regarding 12 audit paras, including projects worth billions of rupees funded by foreign sources in Sindh. The PAC ordered the secretary to investigate the relevant officers responsible for providing incomplete records on these projects and other audit paras and to take action against the responsible officers. Additionally, the PAC instructed the secretary to submit a report on the actions taken against the responsible officers within a week at the next meeting.

A meeting of the Sindh Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was held in the committee room of the Sindh Assembly under the chairmanship of Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Monday.

Many PAC members attended the meeting. The PAC reviewed audit paras from 2019 to 2021 of the P&D Department. During the meeting, the P&D Department was unable to provide complete records for 12 audit paras, including projects worth billions of rupees funded by foreign sources in Sindh. PAC Chairman sought clarity from the secretary P&D on foreign-funded projects worth billions.

In his defence, P&D Secretary informed Khuhro that he was recently appointed, and requested more time to provide the records.
