Sports carnival set to showcase young talent

The event will take place from October 18 to 20 at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD:

Preparations for the Girls Sports Carnival 2024, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, are now complete. More than 4,000 female students from across the country, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, are set to arrive in Islamabad by October 17 to participate in seven different sports.

The event will take place from October 18 to 20 at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad. Athletes will compete in various sports, with four teams in badminton, 36 in table tennis, 27 in athletics, 24 in volleyball, 20 in basketball, 14 in football, and 10 in tennis.

Syed Junaid Akhlaq, Senior Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Chairman of the Federal Board, expressed that the Girls Sports Carnival, organised by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the Federal Directorate of Education Islamabad, aims to showcase the true talent of young Pakistani women. He emphasised that this event offers an excellent opportunity for girls to demonstrate their skills.

Notably, for the first time, women technical officials will oversee the competitions, creating a supportive environment for participants. The Youth Education and Sports (YES) Welfare Society is providing technical support for the event. The opening ceremony is scheduled for October 18.
