'Focused only on Pakistan and want its success': COAS

Pakistan is hosting the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad today.

Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir stated that "our agenda is solely Pakistan," emphasising that they are focused exclusively on the country's success.

According to Express News, this statement was made during a luncheon hosted by President Asif Ali Zardari in honor of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who is in Pakistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. General Munir also attended the luncheon.

When journalists asked the army chief about his expectations from the SCO conference, he reiterated, "Our agenda is solely Pakistan; we are focused only on Pakistan and want its success."

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit opens in Islamabad today

Pakistan is all set to host the 23rd SCO summit in Islamabad today.

The 23rd Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) is scheduled for 16 October 2024, with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presiding over the event and delivering the opening address.

Attendees will include the prime ministers of China, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan, alongside India's foreign minister. Delegations from seven other member states will also be present.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang arrived in Islamabad earlier on Monday, with other dignitaries expected to land throughout the day and into tomorrow. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is anticipated to arrive on the eve of the 16th to participate in the CHG summit.

Delegations from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan will be in attendance, while Mongolia’s prime minister will join as an observer.

The summit aims to assess the organisation's performance and strengthen cooperation among member states.

In addition to member countries, Iran’s first vice president will be present, along with India’s foreign minister.

Islamabad has been adorned with beautiful decorations for the two-day event, featuring electric lights and screens along key routes.
