Ian McKellen spotted at a gay club after recovering from stage injury
Legendary actor Sir Ian McKellen made headlines this weekend after an unexpected appearance at Roast, a popular gay nightclub in North London. The 85-year-old actor, best known for his iconic role as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings series, joined partygoers at the men-only event, showing no signs of slowing down despite his recent health issues.
McKellen, who was hospitalised in June after a fall during a performance at the Noel Coward Theatre, appeared to be in high spirits as he danced the night away. According to witnesses, he looked carefree and energetic, shaking off the lingering effects of his injury, which had caused a chipped vertebra and fractured wrist. The actor had been performing as Sir John Falstaff in Henry IV at the time of the accident and had to pull out of the rest of the run.
One party attendee told MailOnline, “Everyone was gobsmacked when they spotted him on the dancefloor. Sir Ian was having such a good time soaking up the party atmosphere. He looked like he didn’t have a care in the world.” His presence delighted fans, many of whom approached him to send their well-wishes and express admiration for his work.
Known for his long-standing advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, McKellen has never shied away from supporting the community. He came out as gay in 1988 at the age of 49, a decision he has described as life-changing. In interviews, the actor has often stated that coming out transformed both his personal and professional life, allowing him to take on roles with a deeper sense of authenticity.
