Max has officially canceled Velma, the adult animated series led by Mindy Kaling, after two seasons. The show, which reimagined Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo franchise, will not be returning for a third season, the streaming platform confirmed in a statement on October 2024.

“Over the past two seasons, Mindy and Charlie have created an incredibly fun and fresh world within the iconic whodunit franchise,” Max said. “While we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we thank them for their compelling coming-of-age storytelling, unrivaled clues, and hilarious hijinks.”

The 10-episode second season premiered on April 25, 2024, but despite the show’s dedicated fanbase, Max has opted not to continue the story. Velma followed the beloved Scooby-Doo character (voiced by Kaling) as she balanced her detective work with newfound popularity.

The series featured a star-studded cast, including Constance Wu, Sam Richardson, and Glenn Howerton, with guest appearances from Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, and “Weird Al” Yankovic. Despite the buzz surrounding its unique take on the Scooby-Doo universe, Velma is one of several shows facing the axe in 2024.
