Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed profound sadness over the passing of Wu Bangguo, the former Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and former Vice Premier of China.
In a post on the social media platform X, Shehbaz described Wu as an outstanding leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a true friend of Pakistan, noting that he made significant contributions to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
“His visit to Pakistan in 2006 remains a significant milestone. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the people of China in this difficult moment,” Shehbaz Sharif wrote in his post.

Born in 1941, Wu Bangguo held various prominent positions, including a member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the 14th CPC Central Committee.
He was also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 16th and 17th CPC Central Committees.
He also served as Vice Premier of the State Council and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th and 11th NPCs.
