JI convenes nationwide online meeting to address political crisis, future strategy

Chief Hafiz Naeem to address 46,000 members in virtual session; taxation, IPPs, govt contracts also on meeting agenda

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will hold an online meeting today in light of the country's current political situation.

JI chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman will preside over this historic session and deliver an address to 46,000 members at 11:15am, Express News reported.

Women members from across Pakistan are also expected to participate.

Arrangements for an online meeting have been made in all districts to ensure maximum participation.

In addition to the political crisis, the meeting will review constitutional amendments and electricity bill reductions. Discussions will also cover taxation on salaried individuals, independent power producers (IPPs), and government contracts.

The session will outline the future course of action regarding Jamaat-e-Islami's 'Haq Do Awam Ko' campaign. Notably, this is the first time any party has organised a meeting where all members will participate directly.

Last month, JI had announced to hold a sit-in protest in front of the Chief Minister's Secretariat in response to the skyrocketing increase in electricity bills. The announcement was made by JI Lahore Amir Advocate Ziauddin Ansari during a press conference.

Advocate Ansari stated that the protest is being organised on the call of Jamaat-e-Islami Amir, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman. He urged the provincial administration to facilitate the peaceful demonstration rather than obstructing it.

“Peaceful protest is a democratic right guaranteed to every citizen of Pakistan under the Constitution,” Ansari emphasised.

Ansari criticised the government for its failure to address rising electricity tariffs and stressed that no compromises or deals have been made regarding the demands of his party.

“The current rulers were well aware of the challenges before assuming office. They had promised 300 units of free electricity during their election campaign. Jamaat-e-Islami will not tolerate any further deception or false promises,” Ansari stated.
