Bandits steal copper wire
Unidentified people stole copper wire worth Rs600 million from a highly secured storage area of a Chinese camp set up in Tarbela Dam. A senior official lodged a complaint with the Ghazi police on Thursday.
The incident at the Wapda Tarbela Power Station exposed the security measures. Ghazi circle DSP Raja Bashir Ahmed said that the police were investigating the matter.
The stolen copper wire was stored in wooden boxes within the supposedly secure store.
According to the complaint lodged by a Chief Engineer, the copper wire was stolen from the wooden lock boxes, which were lying inside locked rooms within the camp. Notably, neither the locks nor doors showed signs of forced entry or damage. The high-security area, constantly guarded by police and Wapda security staff, is home to Chinese staff working on the Tarbela Tunnel 5 project.
Sources said that multiple theft incidents have also been reported in the past. Insiders claim that removing even a single glass requires collusion with employees. Past incidents include the disappearance of valuable materials like steel, raw materials, and iron doors worth millions of rupees.
