Olivia Rodrigo meets baby penguin Pesto at Sea Life Melbourne and enjoys iconic Australian treats

Pop star Olivia Rodrigo made the most of her trip to Australia by meeting a unique local star – Pesto the penguin. The 21-year-old singer visited Sea Life Melbourne, where she shared a video on TikTok of her encounter with the fluffy penguin chick, whom she called the "owner of this house." In the video, Rodrigo lip-synced to popular audio while standing in the penguin enclosure. She also serenaded Pesto, sweetly singing, “He’s just a little baby,” before wishing for luck ahead of her upcoming performance.

Pesto, reportedly weighing around 22.5 kg, is one of the largest baby penguins ever seen at Sea Life Melbourne. The Vampire singer is not the only celebrity to have met Pesto, as Katy Perry also visited the penguin before her performance at the AFL Grand Final.

During her trip, Rodrigo has also embraced Australian culture. In another TikTok video, she tried the popular snack Tim Tams and captioned her post, “First time in Australia omg I get the Tim Tam hype.” The video has garnered over 5.6 million views. Rodrigo humorously lip-synced, “Spectacular, give me 14 of ’em right now,” while sitting beside several packets of the treat.

Rodrigo is currently performing in Melbourne, with her final show scheduled for October 14, before moving to Sydney for four sold-out performances from October 17 to 22.
