LAHORE:

In a dramatic turn of events, two terrorists convicted for the July 2021 attack on Chinese engineers in Dasu were killed, allegedly by gunfire from armed assailants who attempted to free them from police custody during their transfer between jails.

According to a spokesperson for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the terrorists were being transferred from Sahiwal Jail due to a security threat. When the police vans transporting the convicts reached Samundri Road, unidentified assailants attacked one of the vans in an apparent attempt to free their accomplices. The gunfire resulted in the deaths of two terrorists—Mohammad Hussain and Ayaz K.

"The police and CTD personnel remained unharmed. The slain militants were the masterminds behind the Dasu Dam attack and were serving life sentences," said a statement issued on Friday.

On July 14, 2021, terrorists targeted workers of the Dasu Hydropower Project, killing 13 people, including nine Chinese engineers and four Pakistani nationals. Over 20 others were injured in the attack.

The spokesperson emphasized that CTD Punjab is actively working to ensure a "Safe Punjab" and remains committed to eradicating terrorism. "Any information related to terrorism should be reported on the Counter Terrorism Department Punjab's helpline: 0800-11111," the statement added.
