Yoga clubs gain popularity in S Punjab

MULTAN:

The concept of Yoga clubs, focusing on mental and physical wellness, is rapidly gaining traction in South Punjab, particularly in areas like Burewala, Vehari, and Gaggu Mandi.

Originally initiated in Burewala in 2019 by Riaz Khokhar, Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Exercise Council, the movement has since expanded throughout the region, attracting hundreds of participants from diverse backgrounds. The first yoga club was established at Quaid-e-Azam Stadium, Burewala, and within four years, the number of clubs has surged to 16, including four women-only clubs.

These clubs have become a hub for both urban and rural residents, providing a safe space for exercise and social interaction.

In Burewala alone, 14 clubs operate early in the morning, ensuring separate spaces for men and women to engage in physical activity.

In addition to Burewala, the concept has spread to neighboring towns, with active clubs in Vehari and Gaggu Mandi. The initiative has garnered support from local political figures, including Member of Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Yousuf Kaselia, who supervises a club in Gaggu Mandi.

These yoga clubs cater to people of all ages, particularly benefiting those over 40 who often face health issues such as frozen shoulders, back pain, and knee problems.
