Harris campaign to broadcast Tim Walz rally on Twitch streamer's World of Warcraft gameplay

Harris' campaign will live stream a Tim Walz rally alongside World of Warcraft gameplay to target younger voters

Kamala Harris' campaign will be livestreaming a Tim Walz rally from Arizona tonight in an unconventional format, combining it with live gameplay from World of Warcraft.

The event, scheduled for 6:30 pm ET, will feature Twitch creator Preheat, who will provide commentary during the gameplay while simultaneously showing a live feed of the rally.

Preheat, a volunteer with the campaign, is expected to discuss his connection to the Harris campaign and encourage viewers to make voting plans.

The move is part of the campaign's effort to engage young, often disengaged voters, particularly young men who make up a significant portion of Twitch’s audience.

Harris' campaign launched its Twitch account in August, previously using it to stream her vice-presidential acceptance speech during the Democratic National Convention.

According to campaign spokesperson Seth Schuster, the goal is to break through media saturation by reaching voters through nontraditional channels.

In addition to tonight's rally, Preheat was seen playing World of Warcraft’s "The War Within" expansion ahead of the event, guiding viewers through a raid while promoting the campaign’s messages.

With over 50,000 followers on Twitch, Preheat's involvement emphasizes the campaign’s strategy to merge politics with gaming in order to boost visibility ahead of the 2024 election.

The Harris campaign is not the first to use Twitch as a platform. Both Joe Biden and Donald Trump created accounts during the 2020 election cycle, although Trump’s account was briefly suspended following the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
